Pediatric cardiology is the specialty that identifies and treats children and adults with congenital heart diseases. This is a combined specialty that involves cardiologists, surgeons, anesthetists and intensivists. The incidence of Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) has been very slowly increasing, but it is only in the last 20 years that results of treatment and cardiac surgery have become sufficiently reliable and affordable. Now more children have access to total correction. The progress of medicine has made access to screening, diagnosis and total correction a reasonably economical option for health programs. We are now not only able to diagnose but also treat the majority of these conditions even in remote parts of the world.
